Well, the heat was certainly turned up for the ARPO Summer event this year – an Hawaiian party at the Restaurant Rendezvous, El Limonar Altos. We had exclusive use of Rendezvous and the Hawaiian theme was organised by Nick and Susan Bradford, with the whole restaurant decorated in paper garlands, balloons, ribbons and helium filled balloons for every table. Over fifty members and guests were greeted by our very own ‘hula girl’ (aka Nick) dressed in a grass skirt, colourful shirt and pineapple sunglasses!
Inside the restaurant everyone was greeted with ‘aloha’ and presented with a lei, although many of the ladies had entered into the spirit of the theme and came with their own, as well as flowers in their hair. Everyone seemed to be in relaxed mood and many wore shorts for the beach-party.
There was plenty of refreshment at the ‘free’ bar all evening and the excellent meal was served by our very own hula waitresses.
The entertainment was by our regular duo “Streetwise” (Ian and Janie) who also provided a selection of reggae and steel band background music to our meal. Once the live music began everyone took to the dance floor, so much so that the ‘web photographer’ was totally enjoying the dancing and forgot to take any photos of the dancers!
Our hosts organised the raffle slightly differently with EVERY table winning a prize – Carrefour Vouchers for either €20 or €25 – all presented in very colourful individual boxes to the winners. There was also a ‘booby prize’ of a bottle of Malibu and a fresh pineapple which was won by Steve and Mags Haines!
Our Chairman then gave a vote of thanks to Nick and Susan, as well as to Olga and her staff at Restaurant Rendezvous for the superb quality of food and friendly service.
